The antidepressant, antiobsessional, and antibulimic actions of fluoxetine are presumed to be linked to its ability to inhibit the neuronal reuptake of serotonin. Similarly because of the long half-lives of fluoxetine and norfluoxetine, it may take up to 1 to 2 months for the active drug substance to disappear from the body. This is of potential consequence in withdrawal of fluoxetine.
